How One Woman Left Her High-Ranking Job in Corporate America to Become a Successful Small Business Owner
Candice Cunningham is the owner of Anjelic Scents, we sat down with Candice to learn what inspired her to launch a business.
When Candice began her career in retail nearly 13 years ago, she never envisioned becoming a business owner. “I had no intention of leaving the company I was working for. I moved up the ladder very quickly and was involved in nearly every aspect of the business, I could run it with my eyes closed.”
In 2018 Candice went back to school and obtained a degree in business administration, and she says that’s when things started to change.
“After I got my degree, I just kept fantasizing about owning my own business and the passion that I once had for my job quickly began to fade away. I had a great salary, but I started to dread going to work every day.”
Candice’s inspiration for Anjelic Scents came from a Facebook post. “I saw a post from my aunt about making candles. I was curious so I started looking into it myself and I’ve been hooked ever since. I love everything about candle making. I love creating something from scratch and the satisfaction I get after it’s complete. Candle making is a very rewarding feeling, plus my home always smells great!”
All of Candice’s candles and wax melts are hand-mixed, hand-poured, and labeled individually.
Since launching her business on July 1, Candice says sales have been through the roof. “It’s been overwhelming, I’m trying to keep up with the demand.”
While business is booming, running a small business is still challenging, especially when it came to finding insurance.
“Searching for insurance for my business was overwhelming and a little confusing. Cover Wallet eliminated all of the confusion for me. The site was user-friendly and straight to the point, and my agent was absolutely amazing! He was very patient and walked me through everything step-by-step.”
Despite facing challenges, Candice says fellow entrepreneurs shouldn’t let fear get in the way of pursuing a passion. “Just go for it, and don’t overthink things. The more you try to perfect your plan the more you’ll second guess yourself, so just get started and you can always make changes as you go.”
