Candle Care 101

Here are a few tips to help you make your favorite candles last.

Trim your Wicks:

Your candle will arrive with the wicks trimmed and ready to go for your first burn. The first rule is to always trim your wick to 1/4" prior to each use, or when the wick “mushrooms.” Trimming the wicks will allow the candle to have a longer burn time and stop your flames from becoming dangerously large. To prevent debris from falling into hot wax, we recommend only trimming wicks on cooled candles.

Center your Wicks:

Sometimes after burning your candle your wick can be slightly off centered. Always make sure your wicks are centered before lighting. This will prevent the flame from heating up your container and causing it to over heat and potentially break/crack.

Don't Burn All Day:

Burning a candle for too long is a dangerous thing to do and can lead to a fire hazard. If you burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time, carbon collects on the wick, and it begins to “mushroom.” This causes the wick to become unstable, the flame gets too large and your candle smokes too much, which releases that dangerous soot into the air and all collects all around your candle container.

Burn in a Safe Environment:

Place your candle on non-flammable, heat resistant surfaces and never leave a burning candle unattended. Keep away from drafts and out of reach of children and pets. Also be aware that placing a hot candle on a cool surface like marble or glass may cause the container to crack and/or cause damage to the surface.

Learn when to Say Goodbye:

We know it's hard but it's time to let go when you have about 1/4" of wax left in your container. When the majority of the wax has been consumed, the flame will heat the container making the bottom of it hot.
